About me

ABOUT ME

A PERSONAL PRESENTATION

My name is Catarina, 38, and I live in Gothenburg, Sweden, with my sambo but we are actually actively looking for houses outside the city and maybe in other cities around Västra Götaland.

In my spare time I love to påta with my plants in my little urban garden on my balcony and I am also an oldschool nerd, who enjoy internet culture and the humour that comes with it. I am no memester and I don't hang around at Flashback or Reddit, but I absolutely appreciate a good meme. I don't play computer games anymore, maybe a Dota2 game here and there, but the main gaming years are behind me. I do still spend time with my gamer friends, via Discord and events of different kinds. I would really like to work with nerds, that would be a lot of fun!

Speaking of work; I am a creative soul with passion for communication in all forms, and I have a pretty mixed background. I'm a graphic designer and I decided on this path when I was around 14 years old, and I just went with it. It felt like the perfect combo of my creative side and the computer nerd (est. 1995) that I was, and still am in some ways.

My end game has all along been to be a generalist. So I've done many things.. I've worked as a Graphic designer, Prepress department manager, Final artist, Ad producer, Advertising assistant, Retouch artist, Bookbinder, Large Print operator and with customer service, etc.

I have many interests and hobbies such as live music and all kinds of events. Sometimes I get lost in puzzles, both digital and physical, like jigsaws and escape rooms. Geocaching is also fun and I like to be out in the nature.

I found a new hobby during Covid; plants! Apparently I have a desire to grow green things. I often bring flowers to the office that I've grown myself, and almost no one leaves my home without a plant.

Sometimes I volunteer as a group leader at LAN events like Glitched, Summergate/Wintergate, and DreamHack. For about 20 years, I’ve enjoyed being involved in planning and executing nerdy events, creating a fun and welcoming environment for kids, teenagers, and young adults. This, for visitors but also for volunteering crew.

One of the things I love about being part of this LAN crew community is seeing volunteers grow through the responsibilities they are given. Watching a shy young person or a troublemaker develop through a challenging task is incredibly rewarding. It all comes down to how the instructions are given. No approach could ever be exactly the same, as every person is their own individual.

Over the years, I’ve learned that information is almost always open to interpretation. Some people need a long explanation, while others completely tune out if it's too long. Some need to see how it’s done in person, while others just need a text message. Some will work better in the morning, some in the evening and some just need a Snickers. When working with a large group, it's difficult to meet everyone’s needs, but with experience, you start to know when to adapt and when not to.

So yes, I am literally exited about communication in all forms :)

I love:

.. Adobe Illustrator Photoshop and InDesign

.. to brainstorm and to come up with new ideas

.. mixing colors and layouts in new ways

.. honesty, loyalty, reliability and feedback

.. smiling customers and colleagues
